Daylilies are an easy to grow rewarding perennial plant which can be grown in all states of Australia.

Daylilies flower from Spring to Autumn with spasmodic flowering in winter.

Daylily hybrids have evolved from a small group of species in the genus Hemerocallis, which is in the lily family.

Single daylily flowers stay open for one day but a daylily can have up to 50 flowers on one flowering scape so that you get a display of flowers over a long period of time.

Daylilies have foliage which is either evergreen, semi-evergreen or dormant. The flowering period of daylilies also varies, ie some flower early in a season others flower towards the end of season. The majority of the newer daylily hybrids rebloom, meaning you will have a lovely display of daylilies over an extended period.

I am by no means a daylily expert but on my website I have composed some culture notes based on my own growing experience and some common daylily terms/abbreviations used when describing daylily culture/habits.
Daylilies can be grown in a wide range of soil types and can tolerate grey water . Once established daylilies are drought hardy and require minimal attention apart from sitting back, relaxing and admiring their beauty.

A great addition to have in your garden in times of drought.

On my daylily website you will see some of the daylilies that I have collected over the years.

Hybridising daylilies is my favourite pass time and I derive much enjoyment waiting for those first daylily blooms to open. It is very exciting unlocking the genetic pool of the next generation of daylilies and an easy thing for all gardeners young and old to take part in.

Daylily hybrids of today come in an amazing range of colours, shapes and sizes. Doubles, spiders, miniatures, and unusual formed daylilies.

There is a daylily that is suitable for a wide range of landscaping needs, ranging from miniature sized to large. Daylily blooms can vary amazingly in size from a tiny 1 inch to a massive 16 inch.
