Canna ‘President’ (also known as ‘The President’)
Antoine Wintzer bred the plant, and the Conard-Pyle Co. introduced it in Pennsylvania in 1920.
Award: In 1922, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) granted it the Award of Merit.
It is a stunning heirloom variety that has been around for more than 100 years.
It continues to be one of the most recognisable cultivars due to its vibrant scarlet-red flowers with a fine, flashy yellow trim, mainly in autumn, and some yellow markings in the centre. It has mid-green leaves.
Division: To preserve the health and vigour of the canna plant, it is recommended that large clusters be divided every few years during early spring.
