When the Kniphofia Prince Igor in my garden finally begins to bloom in early November—the start of summer in Australia—it always makes a striking statement thanks to its bright orange, red flowers, and enormous pokers. It has larger blooms than kniphofia winter cheer, but they’re still not football size. Despite its existence, this variety is not always easily accessible in Australian retail.
On offer is one flowering size plant with bare roots.
Red Hot Pokers, also known as Torch Lilies, are a type of Kniphofia.
